Dr. Paul Shelden is an internationally renowned clarinetist and woodwind artist,
and highly respected conductor and music educator. His BS and MS degrees
are from Juilliard and the DMA from Univ. of Maryland. As a performer, Dr.
Shelden was cited by Backstage Magazine as "a strong stage personality."
He has performed under such luminary conductors as Leonard Bernstein,
James Levine, and Robert Shaw and was woodwind player in numerous shows
on Broadway and in recording studios. He has performed with world famous
entertainers such as Bob Hope, Tony Bennett and Rosemary Clooney, among
Dr. Shelden is professor emeritus of music at Brooklyn College where he was
award winning director of bands. He was also Asst. Director of the Conservatory
of Music and Asst. Dean for Research and Graduate Studies for the college.
Dr. Shelden has appeared frequently as a host/narrator of music programs for
While at Brooklyn College, Professor Shelden was co-director of a musical
instrument technology laboratory where major analysis was done on synthetic
materials for woodwind instruments.
